The dish…on just one dish!

The Southern Gourmasian is the best food truck in Little Rock. End of discussion. No debate. No questions asked. Heck, I think some of the best food in Little Rock, period, is coming out of that truck…brick and mortar be damned. And this is not to disparage any of the other wonderful food trucks/carts in the area.

Adding to Chef Justin’s legacy is his latest culinary spin on a brunch time omelet ($4.50), which is served up Saturday mornings at the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market.

What makes it so special? The simplicity.

Seasoned shiitake mushrooms and sweet onions rest in a ½-inch thick egg pancake. For the Chinese food lovers out there, think really awesome egg foo young. The inclusion of bacon was offered, but I reluctantly resisted, opting instead to keep my arteries intact for just a bit longer. The plentiful mushrooms and onions kept the eggs moist and flavorful. Also, the eggs were fluffy on the inside, but had that excellent, slight crispy exterior that only derives from a perfect grill job.

As I sat on the steps, devouring my omelet, I scanned the board to see what else TSG had going on. Here were some of the highlights:

Homemade Fried Apple Ginger Pie………..3
Shrimp + Grits – Creamy Miso Grits, Bacon Vinaigrette, Poached Egg…………..6.5
Eggs Bene – Skillet Biscuit, Benton’s Country Ham, Hollandaise…………….6
Bacon Sandwich – Benton’s Bacon, Fried Egg, Thai Basil, Homemade Pickles………..7
Loco Moco – Thai Sticky Rice, Pork Shoulder, Fried Egg, Spicy Gravy………………….7

I got a peak at another customer’s order of Loco Moco. Think I know what I’m getting next time around!
