Mondays are usually dedicated to restaurant reviews…not this Monday!
Oh, the power of advertising! A friend recently slipped me a copy of the latest Edible Boston magazine. While thumbing through it, I noticed an ad for Tougas Family Farm. Located less than an hour west of Boston, Tougas Family Farm is a place for the entire family to enjoy. I know that sounds so cliche, but it’s very true. I really don’t know who had a better time, my wife and I or the kids.
The concept is so simple and it’s a win/win situation for all involved. Just park your car, pay $27, and get to load up on 20 pounds of fresh-picked apples. It’s a great value for a ton of fresh apples. Heck, you even get a tractor ride over to the orchards.
Pickers are free to roam as they please. On a cool early fall day, I can’t imagine anything more relaxing than picking a few Gala, McIntosh, Fuji, and Honey Crisp apples (just to name a few). The apples are beautiful and delicious. Once you’re done and the bag is full, just catch a tractor ride back. Haul your apples to the car, do a quick drop off, and head over to the monster pumpkin patch. Snap a few cutsie fam photos and then check out the kitchen/store.
Inside the store, I sucked down a small jug of apple cider, but decided to pass on the $5 bag of apple donuts (figure I had to save something for next time). You’ll find other goodies like ice cream, jams, breads, and pastries.
Door to door, the entire experience took about four hours…a PERFECT day trip. We’ll be back out to Tougas Family Farm sooner rather than later. Besides apples, seasonal pickings include: strawberries, cherries, blueberries, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, and pumpkins.
