Last night, I asked this question on The Mighty Rib Facebook page, “Where is your favorite non-restaurant spot to get fried chicken?”
And you responded…
Eric R.: “Edwards Chester Fried! It’s outstanding!”
Heck, about 10 other readers on the thread chimed in with Edwards Food Giant.
I now had some work to do.
First things first, I’m 39-years-old with elevated cholesterol, so the thought of eating greasy, grocery store fried chicken on a Wednesday afternoon isn’t high on my list of things to do. But I’m occasionally adventurous, and, more importantly, I’m a good listener. Plus, I had just put in 30 minutes on the treadmill, so I was feeling really good about life.
If you say the fried chicken at Edwards is good, then I better take my ass down and try some out.
So, I did.
And guess what? It was outstanding. For those wondering, I went to the Edwards on Cantrell at 11 a.m. and ordered a 2-piece white “snacker.” This also comes with 3 potato wedges and a roll … all for $3.87 (and that includes tax).
To make sure this “tasting” was conducted properly, I paid the small bill and headed straight for my car. Fried chicken is best eaten right away, so I couldn’t risk transporting it back to the casa for consumption. I dove right in and was immediately surprised by the crispy batter and juiciness of the meat. Sure, it was greasy as hell, but the meat was super tender and flavorful.
The potato wedges were deep fried as well, a move that screamed “what’s the point?” As good as the wedges were, I refrained from eating all three. I don’t have a death wish.
Will I be a regular grocery store fried chicken eater? No. But that’s not because of the taste, which was absolutely fantastic.

You’re welcome.
Outstanding that you enjoyed it! I have the Cantrell locations fried chicken at least once a week.
