Time for another restaurant review…but this one is on wheels!

The Houston food truck scene has/is exploded/exploding.  I’ve been feverishly trying to visit as many as possible.  The food coming out of these trucks is often times unique and delicious.  With competition steep, one of the greatest compliments I can give the crew at Eatsie Boys is that I’ve been twice.  I was out with a small group the other night watching NHL hockey at a bar in mid-town. One of my friends looked at me and said it was time for an Eatsie Boys run. Done!

As with any restaurant, it’s all about knowing the right thing to order. The menu at Eatisie Boys is small, but what they do, they do well. Service is excellent. The truck is often stationed next to Agora on Westheimer. Patrons are able to order their food, walk over to Agora, get a drink, sit out on the patio…and about ten minutes later, one of the workers brings over the food.  Nice touch!

Here are the menu items I’ve tried: Da Bomb ($6), Pork Snuggies (2 for $6), Eggman Business ($8), No Sleep Til Philly ($8).  And a quick summation: No, Yes, Maybe, and Hell Yes.

Da Bomb: No. This is the Eatsie Boys take on bahn mi.  For $6, it’s a little expensive for a typical bahn mi sandwich…and quite honestly, there was just too much going on with it.  Sometimes less is more.  The hoisin was just too heavy for my liking.  This sandwich was made with love, it was just not my preference.

Pork Snuggies: Yes. These are a must get.  For two reasons…first, it’s great food to grab and go–very easy to handle.  Second, despite the use of heavenly pork belly, this dish feels light.  The blending of flavors, highlighted by those darn tasty pickles, is just right.  Ahhh, those steamed buns that fold around all the ingredients, just brings everything together into a nice little package.

Eggman Business: Maybe. I really should list this as an incomplete…a friend let me have a bite. I remember it being good, but any more details on this item would not be accurate.

No Sleep Til Philly: Hell Yes. This is what brought us back to Eatsie Boys.  “Damn, let’s go get one of those Philly cheese steaks!” Here is the rundown: sliced ribeye, grilled onions, homemade cheese whiz, and Slow Dough bread.  This is the best Philly Cheese steak I’ve had in Houston. I’ve yet to have the real thing, but this feels like the real thing.  Very cheesy!  Just go and get one. You will not be disappointed.

I hope this food truck does well…it seems like they are having fun, and their food reflects that. Disagree with some of my takes?  Is there a dish I need to try?

That’s two votes for the Eggman…it’s gonna take more than that for me to switch from No Sleep Til Philly.
