Mondays are dedicated to bringing you a restaurant review!

A few weeks back, I attended the Houston Press Menu of Menus event.  For those of you not from these parts, it’s basically a massive showcase of many restaurants in one location.  But this year, it was a little different.  A few food trucks were in attendance.  That’s where I stumbled upon The Rolling Hunger.  Glad I did, because their Korean pork tostada was the best bite I had that night.

I vowed to check this place (that had only been open for about a week) out again.  So, I did…last weekend.  Monster food truck are becoming more and more prominent in our fine city.  And it’s not what you think.  This is real food–not some greasy pile of sh*t your mind might be conjuring up.

The Rolling Hunger is a perfect example of a fine eating on wheels.  Simple ingredients tossed together to form complex flavors–that’s what this truck is all about.  They may not win any awards on presentation, but they will on taste.  This is fusion eating, marrying the Spanish and Korean cultures into simple dishes like banh mi (sandwich), quesadillas, fried egg rolls, tostadas, and tacos.

The low overhead associated with food trucks means reasonably-priced eats.  The Rolling Hunger is cash only, but expect two people to walk away from the truck for about $10-12.

I met Kwang, one of the guys who runs The Rolling Hunger.  We spoke for about 15 minutes, and I gotta admit, I’m routing for him.  You couldn’t meet a nicer guy who’s extremely passionate about his business.

I’ve had four or five different items from TRH.  While everything is excellent, the banh mi is not to be missed.  I think it cost $4.  The bread was super fresh and was well-proportioned with the tender sliced pork.  I couldn’t imagine a better light lunch or a late night, after-club snack.

The food is so delicious! I have to agree about the banh mi, perfect french bread & the pork was so tender & crispy, no fat at all! All I can say is can’t wait to try the ribs…where are y’all?
