Izard Chocolate, located at 623 Beechwood in Hillcrest, is set to close in the third week of March. A specific date has yet to be set.

“Part of the problem with chocolate is that it’s seasonal. You have the slow parts and the all-out crazy parts. Some people thrive on that, but after doing it for more than four years, I just decided I couldn’t do it any longer,” says owner Nathaniel Izard.

While the chocolate business was going great–with a record December and Valentine’s Day–several factors contributed to the decision to close, including Izard’s ability to balance long working hours with his other area’s of life.

Izard’s variety of dark chocolate bars, truffles, and caramels had become a local favorite and his storefront was a staple in the Hillcrest community.

“The support of the community has been amazing. Little Rock has invested in my dreams and I will miss the interaction with the people most of all,” says Izard.

Izard’s plan is to stay in the area but transition to another profession in the coming weeks and months.

Keep an eye out for a sort of “chocolate retirement party” at the shop, with announcements coming on Izard Chocolate’s social media.
