It’s always fun to report the positives!

Little Rock knows its way around a sandwich. Maybe it’s the finely cured meats talking here, but I continue to be astounded by the uniqueness and deliciousness of several versions around town.

And what a run I’ve had of late it…to the point where I considered not writing this post, in fear of the dreaded jinx. But alas, the world must know: Little Rock’s signature dish might very well be the ever popular sandwich.

As previously written, there’s no finer example than Hillcrest Artisan Meats’ beef cheeks. The only downfall with this sandwich is its infrequent appearances on their menu. That’s when I opt for the georgie.

I got a little crazy last Friday at my inaugural visit to White Water Tavern. I went full-on huggy bear. This bold ordering move may very well prove to be my greatest culinary decision of the year. Soft banana slices are jammed between two pieces of house-made bread and topped with peanut butter and honey. I even added some thick-cut bacon for good measure. Warm, sweet, salty and gooey—this sandwich was a complete gluttonous mess.

Two of my top sandwiches coming from our ever popular food truck/carts are the clarice from The Food Truck and the traditional Philly cheese steak from Philly’s.

Looking for a breakfast sandwich? I’d recommend trying out Boulevard Bread Company’s aptly-named breakfast sandwich. The inside portion of the 8-grain sliced bread is well toasted, creating a perfect barrier to keep the entire sandwich intact while eating. Inside, you’ll find crisp pancetta, lettuce, tomato, aioli, and a fried egg.

Guillermo’s Gourmet Grounds unexpectedly churns out a great sandwich…in fact, two great sandwiches. While I typically run in for a quick cup of coffee, I have been known to grab a ham panini crunch or the turkey panini.

And let us not forget the chains. Lenny’s turkey sandwich on white bread still tops my list for best fast-food sub in this town. Also, if you’re ever at Cracker Barrel, try out their roasted turkey sandwich. Two thick slabs of cold turkey on buttery bread is never a bad thing.

Here’s the best part: I’ve only scratched the surface on all the great sandwiches around Little Rock. Here’s one I just read about. Do you have a favorite? Would love some suggestions!
