I recently wrote about this recipe as part of my weekly crock pot feature on the Houston Press blog. Being New Year’s, I wanted to highlight a good black-eyed pea recipe. Bingo! This one is very good. And it’s so easy because you don’t have to pre-soak the peas. Just give them a good rinse and toss in the pot with the other ingredients. I fried the bacon beforehand, and used Canadian bacon instead of regular ham. I brought this for my family’s Christmas dinner potluck and it seemed to be well received. I’d consider throwing in another jalapeno if you like it spicy–this version was definitely mild.
