We are constantly on the prowl for cool products, promotions, and events!
I’m a big guy. So when I hear that something is “skinny” when mentioned in regard to food or drinks, I tend to get a bit skeptical. Such was the case with RA Sushi’s new line of low calorie Skinny cocktails.
Touting the slogan “New Year, New You”, RA is focused on bringing slenderized versions of their adult libations to the public – the Lychee-teenie, Skinny Ninja and Thai Ginger each boast less than 200 calories. But would they taste better than bathwater? That’s what I was out to determine…
I ordered all 3 drinks at the same time (why beat around the bush, I was there to drink!) and waited, thinking I would never like something “skinny”. I am man enough to admit that I was wrong.
The first beverage I tried was the Lychee-teenie. Featuring low-carb Voli vodka, Agave nectar and lychee fruit, this was very refreshing. It almost reminded me of a Bellini – very crisp, sweet and DANGEROUS. It had a very clean finish, with no aftertaste. These things will sneak up on you; I could easily have kept drinking them and been very drunk. But I am a professional and had to press on. I give this drink 9 out of 10.
Next up was the Skinny Ninja. Cool name, but was it worth a darn? I liked it but it was nothing special. With pink grapefruit, yuzu, Agave nectar, shiso (a basil-minty Japanese herb) and Voli vodka, this drink had a minty feel and was slightly spritzer-ish. I likened it to a Japanese version of the mojito. Oddly, though, I didn’t taste any hint of the pink grapefruit that was touted. I give it 7.5 out of 10.
Finally, I tried the Thin Ginger. This was the cocktail I was most anxious to try, featuring muddled strawberry and ginger with Voli Lemon vodka, fresh citrus and Agave nectar. I’m not sure if I the flavors of the other drinks overpowered this one, but I was a little disappointed. It had a little more bite, probably due to the ginger and was still refreshing but I guess I got caught up in overhyping the drink. I give the Thin Ginger 7 out of 10.
Overall the drinks were good, especially considering they were all less than 200 calories. I would definitely recommend giving them a try. Throw out your preconceived notions about what a “skinny” cocktail is and come in with an open mind. You’re not likely to leave disappointed.

Thank you for reviewing some great beverages to us. I really appreciate it. I was curious with the Thin Ginger. I love to have ginger in my beverages than in cookies or foods (yes, I am not a big fan of ginger cookies).
