Lyndi knows what it’s like living without certain foods due to allergies, sensitivities and conscience.

I just found out from my doctor that I have high levels of styrene in my system.

Oh dear.

Styrene is classified by the US EPA as a “potential human carcinogen,” and found widely distributed in commercial products such as rubber, plastic, insulation, fiberglass, pipes, food containers and carpet backing.

I haven’t laid any pipes, carpet or insulation lately.

According to the International Styrene Industry Forum (ISIF),  results of a two-year styrene inhalation study in rats, completed in 1996, also showed no increased incidence of cancer. Studies in mice have shown effects in the lung.

I feel good about that rat.

Ever have that nagging “I shouldn’t be doing this” thought when you microwave using plastic wrap or a plastic container?  Ever leave a plastic bottle of the water in the car in hot weather yet continue to drink from it?

Me too.

Not anymore.

I started two lifestyle changes.

Change #1: When I buy my produce, no longer am I storing my vegetables in the cheap toxin-emitting plastic produce bags.  I am storing them in washable produce bags. Benefit:  These bags allow vegetables to breathe and they last longer!

Change #2: When I have leftovers, I am now refrigerating the contents in glass containers.  Benefit:  Glass containers make it easier to see the contents and therefore you can quickly assess what is available to eat.  That helps you to not wasting food!

Have you thought about making the switch?

May I make it easier for you? I have two giveaways currently in progress on my personal blog that end soon:

1. Giveaway for washable produce bags

2. Giveaway for Ziploc VersaGlass containers

Two easy little life changes that will help my vegetables last longer and encourage me to not waste food.  Who doesn’t want that?

Will you join me on this journey?
